Baby Massage Courses

If you would you like to spend time in a super calm environment relaxing and engaging with your baby, then our IAIM baby massage courses are just perfect for you! On this lovely course you’ll discover how to; use positive nurturing touch on your baby, how to read their cues & understand their behaviour, and how you can continue baby massage as your little one grows.

Some of the benefits of baby massage:

  • A special time each week to communicate verbally and non-verbally with your baby
  • Gaining a deeper understanding of your babies behaviour, crying and cues
  • A relaxing time for parent/s and babies alike and can help a baby to sleep well
  • The strokes you learn may help with colic, wind and constipation
  • Helps your baby to feel securely attached
  • Increased confidence with your baby and learning a life long skill
  • You can read more on the delights of baby massage here 🙂

Courses are offered from a venue in Brixton and in Beckenham. Private courses are run from your home or a friend’s home and are popular with NCT or postnatal groups who like to do the course together, making it a lovely social event afterwards. *PLEASE NOTE* – the courses have different costs depending on where it’s being held.

Any private groups’ home-based sessions need to be fairly local to Crystal Palace and take place during the daytime on week days. Please get in touch to discuss. We just need enough space to lay each baby down – everything is provided, all you need to bring is yourself and your baby 😀

The massage strokes/routines you learned the class before get repeated each session so you feel 100% confident by the end of the course.

You’ll take away handouts covering all of the massage routines and a bottle of organic cold pressed sunflower oil to keep so you can practice in between sessions.

If you and a few friends (minimum of 3 parents & babies) would like to do the course/s from one of your homes you can combine Baby Massage with Baby Reflexology, or separate the courses out.

“We all loved our baby massage course and were all sad when it ended! Such a nice vibe each class and learned a lot in a relaxed way. I now use it as part of my baby’s bedtime routine and she responds really well to it!”

There are no hard and fast rules as to when you can start baby massage though committing to a course very early on with a tiny baby will probably be a challenge! Baby reflexology can be started from 4 weeks onwards, but again, the above most likely applies.

You can massage your baby any time they are in a ‘quiet alert’ state and seem interested in interaction. It’s lovely to include it as part of your baby’s bedtime routine. Some babies will love the full routine, others will only tolerate it for a short time. It’s completely baby-led and we always look to the baby for ‘yes’ cues (which you will learn about during the course) that they are happy to receive the massage.

If your baby is not interested during the course you can just watch, or practice on one of the dolls. It all gets repeated and built up on the following session. Some babies sleep and/or feed throughout the majority of a course. The handouts and quick glance card you receive make it very easy to practice at home and in between sessions 🙂
