Baby Massage Classes

What is baby massage?

Baby massage is positive, nurturing touch and gentle stroking of your baby’s body. It’s a lovely way to communicate your love to her and is an activity you’ll both find soothing and calming.

Massage can help your baby’s digestion and circulation, and the ‘wind and colic’ routine may help with trapped wind. Parents also find massaging their babies is relaxing for them too!

If you would you like to spend time in a super calm environment relaxing and engaging with your baby, then our IAIM in-person or online baby massage courses are just perfect for you! On this lovely course you’ll discover how to use positive nurturing touch on your baby, and how you can continue baby massage as your little one grows.

Some of the benefits of baby massage

“I would 100% recommend doing the class with Jackie. Even if you don’t actually massage your baby at the time. Of the four classes ‘R’ was eating during one, crying in the second, sleeping during the third and then slept and cried and fed for the fourth one. But we have been doing different parts of the massages that we learnt every bath time and he loves it. And we do the tummy routine multiple times a day and it really helps with his bowels. It was also lovely to see other mums during the class.”

Private Baby Massage courses

Private courses are run from your home or a friend’s home and are popular with NCT or postnatal groups who like to do the course together, making it a lovely social event afterwards.

Any private groups’ home-based sessions need to be fairly local to Crystal Palace and take place during the daytime on week days. Please get in touch to discuss. We just need enough space to lay each baby down

Online baby massage courses

Through Zoom we provide live online, group Baby Massage courses at a discounted rate. Each class is exactly the same as the in-person classes, with the exception of being given the massage oil. All the information you need to know about how the course operates will be sent to you via email in advance and you will receive the baby massage instruction card via post so you can practice in between sessions. If you have a few of you who would like to save money by taking the course via Zoom please get in touch.

This course is 3 weeks of baby massage and one week of baby reflexology and you can do just the baby massage, or both massage and reflexology.

“We all loved our baby massage & baby reflexology course and were all sad when it ended! Such a nice vibe each class and learned a lot in a relaxed way. I now use it as part of my baby’s bedtime routine and she responds really well to it!”

There are no hard and fast rules as to when you can start baby massage though committing to a course very early on with a tiny baby will probably be a challenge! As we will be sitting on the floor please also consider your recover following your baby’s birth.

Baby reflexology can be started from 4 weeks onwards, but again, the above most likely applies.

You can massage your baby any time they are in a ‘quiet alert’ state and seem interested in interaction. It’s lovely to include it as part of your baby’s bedtime routine. Some babies will love the full routine, others will only tolerate it for a short time. It’s completely baby-led and we always look to the baby for ‘yes’ cues (which you will learn about during the course) that they are happy to receive the massage.

If your baby is not interested during the course you can just watch, or practice on one of the dolls. It all gets repeated and built up on the following session. Some babies sleep and/or feed throughout the majority of a course. The handouts and quick glance card you receive make it very easy to practice at home and in between sessions 🙂
