What is pregnancy reflexology?

Pregnancy reflexology is a holistic therapy that massages specific feet areas and creates beneficial effects in other parts of the body, as well as soothing the aches and pains you feel due to growing your baby.

You may also find that you gain relief from other symptoms such as morning sickness, heartburn, swelling in your legs and constipation as well as a reduction in any emotional stress or anxiety.

The benefits of pregnancy reflexology

Reflexology during pregnancy can be wonderful and may help alleviate all those common pregnancy conditions such as:

  • Morning sickness
  • Backache or back pain
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Constipation
  • General aches and pains in the latter stage

You may also find that you gain relief from other symptoms such as heartburn and swelling in your legs (several studies regarding the benefits of pregnancy reflexology have been undertaken that you may be interested in reading about).

What happens to my body when I receive pregnancy reflexology?

When you receive a pregnancy reflexology treatment, you’re helping prepare your body for labour and birth. Because you are much more relaxed, you conserve energy for you and your baby. Your body and baby also receive increased levels of oxygen, and you’re able to recover more speedily post birth and boost milk supply

As you already are aware, your body is going through the most amazing changes and is working hard to grow your baby. Give yourself a wonderful helping hand with a beneficial Reflexology treatment. Time out and time to relax is what every expectant mother needs and Reflexology is very beneficial postnatally too.

As standard practice, a consultation form will be completed before the treatment to ensure there are no prohibitive conditions present.

When might pregnancy reflexology not be suitable?

Even though Reflexology is a safe and gentle therapy, if you have any of the following conditions you should not undergo treatment and will of course seek immediate medical attention.

  • Placental abruption
  • Placenta praevia
  • Bleeding
  • Continuous vomiting
  • Toxaemia: Pre-Eclampsia – Eclampsia
  • HELLP Syndrome
  • DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)

Reflexology for ‘late’ Pregnancy

Pregnancy length can vary massively from woman to woman – up to 5 weeks! We are all unique after all 🙂  Ditching the ‘due date’ is recommended, but I do understand the immense pressure parents are under when their due date comes…. and goes….

I believe there is no stronger force than Mother Nature – and that your body and your baby know best. The most beneficial thing you can do for yourself as your due date passes on by is to stay as relaxed as is physically possible – this is one thing Reflexology can most certainly help with!

When you are relaxed your oxytocin levels will increase and oxytocin is one of the hormones that starts, and continues, your labour.

Reflexology is a wonderful thing to do for you and your baby in the late stages of pregnancy, enabling you to relax deeply – which is just what your hardworking body requires.  It can help you to let go of stress – which in turn could be just the ticket to get things going.

I am an experienced Reflexologist, with over 16 years’ experience in all things Reflexology.

Postnatal Reflexology

It’s tiring being a Mum – especially a new Mum! Immense change has taken place in your mind and body and you likely feel tired, frazzled and like you have no time for yourself.

Growing a new human being is no mean feat! During pregnancy your body goes through huge physical and emotional changes and this, coupled with the pressures of your new responsibilities can leave you feeling overwhelmed and stressed at times.

The good news is that booking a few regular reflexology sessions with me will ensure that you get some overdue, one to one time with an experienced Reflexologist. Now is the time you need some serious pampering and relaxation.

As reflexology is excellent at balancing the body’s systems, you may well feel that if you have been feeling low, your mood lifts and anxiety levels drop – your body will be given a helping hand in healing itself.

A recent research study has shown that reflexology treatments helped improve the quality of sleep in post-natal women {Li C-Y et al – 2011 “Randomised controlled trial of the effectiveness of using foot reflexology to improve quality of sleep amongst post partum women” Midwifery. 27. p181-186)

I look forward to delivering you some serious TLC soon 🙂

Treatments last around 45 minutes and cost £55. Payment is made in advance either via PayPal or bank transfer – and thank you! If you’ve completed or will be completing a hypnobirthing course with me you are entitled to 10% off all treatments for life!

Please note, treatments take place at the client’s home so you need to be relatively close to SE19 to book a treatment!
